PARENTS' CORNER

Why is reading so important?

UNESCO says reading for pleasure is the single most important thing that will make a child successful in life.

“Reading for pleasure is the single biggest factor in success later in life, outside of an education. Study after study has shown that those children who read for pleasure are the ones who are most likely to fulfil their ambitions. If your child reads, they will succeed – it’s that simple.” Bali Rai

Evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in reading tests than those who don’t, but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures.

As children start to learn to read at school, we can play an important role in helping to keep them interested in books. Here, we would get them interested in books and make it fun.

What are the benefits of reading?

  • Reading aloud helps children acquire early language skills.

  • Reading aloud helps children develop positive associations with books and reading.

  • Reading aloud helps children build a stronger foundation for school success.

Books build better brains!
